Get out of a Rip at the Beach

Get out of a Rip at the Beach

Stay calm, look for a lifeguard and other important tips

Ever been stuck in a rip? It can be really scary.
The key thing to remember is to remain calm, panicking will only waste your energy.
  1. Raise one arm if you need assistance, and wait for a lifeguard to come and get you. If you are a strong, competent swimmer then you can may be able to get out of the rip yourself by swimming parallel to the beach, towards the breaking waves and swim to the shore once you are safely out of the current.
  2. Remember to ALWAYS swim between the flags as these are the areas which lifeguards patrol.
  3. NEVER go into the sea without your 'rent's permission.
