Hi Eva! Your first book was the Worst Week Ever! series, which you co-created with your husband Matt Cosgrove. Do you write the story first or does Matt draw an illustration first and you write a story or moment around it?
E: Together we write the outline of the book first, then we go into further detail page by page and decide what sort of illustration would best tell the story. For example: is it a huge double page spread image or lots of smaller illustrations? The words then keep getting finessed around the drawings. It’s a slow process!
We love that each of your books has a signature colour. How do you decide what colour each book gets to be? Is there pressure to pick the perfect colour?
E: The Worst Week Ever books were mostly black covers but with each new day having a bright highlight colour. We alternated between opposite sides of the colour wheel so each book was dramatically different from the one preceding it. And with each new release I would change my hair colour to match for fun!

We love that! What has been the most memorable moment in your career so far?
E: Speaking in front of over 5000 students at the ICC (International Convention Centre in Sydney) was a moment I will never forget. The roar of the crowd was next level and lifted me up. All my nerves disappeared as soon as they started cheering us on.
Aside from being an author, what other special or secret talents do you have?
I am a trained photographer so I like to take photos, mostly of landscapes, nature and food. I also love documenting Matt’s Macca the Alpaca events. Alpacas are so cute!
So cute! Any upcoming projects that you can share with TGs to look out for in 2026?
We just finished another Worst Week Ever spin-off series which will be out around Easter. Keep an eye out for a very unlikely superhero on the bookshelves!
