Hi Robert! Which five emojis would you use to describe the new season of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!?
First of all, it’s gotta be:
😀 because it brings joy, let’s be honest – it’s a very fun show.
😱 Every time there’s an eating trial, I’m like "ahh, can’t do that!"
🦏 because the animals over there are incredible. And about 30 minutes down the road from where we shoot I’m A Celeb, we support an all women anti-poaching patrol to protect rhinos in the wild.
🌳 because we’re in the jungle.
🎉 the party time emoji, you know the confetti going off. That represents Julia Morris. Confetti.
Love it. We have to talk about the promo you and Julia did. We know that Julia comes from a musical background, but what was it like for you?
Ohh, I am not a dancer and I am not a singer. No way. But I am musical. I love music, I love playing music. I love guitar, I really enjoy it. My sister’s a really good dancer because she won the American Dancing With the Stars, which is a big deal in the dancing world. It’s huge. I asked for a few tips from her and I got a few. You know my rhythm and my timing and all of that - it all kind of went out the window as soon as they said ‘Action!’ though. I was just like 'let’s just go for it and have a bit of fun'. But that whole promo was like a big Halloween party - everyone comes and plays dress up, you all have a bit of fun, there’s dancers and animals and we’re all in 1950s gear. It was SO much fun! It was really cool. But it was daunting, because I’m not a singer. I got to go in the booth and I had some great musicians around me who were giving me little tips and I think it turned out okay.

Which challenge from the show would you prefer to avoid?
Any of the eating challenges. The eating trials are a big no go. There is no way in a million billion years that I would ever put any of those things in my mouth. No sir. Not gonna happen. (laughs)
You meet so many recognisable people in your work, like Prince William, Jimmy Fallon and Kevin Hart. Who do you think would be good at competing on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!?
Oh, it would be interesting to see how Kevin Hart would go in there. (laughs) It would be a very exciting and very loud time. I always find it funny because with what I do, I’m usually around animals in some context, in some point. It’s interesting to see how different people react to animals. And for the most part people, they’ve got a general respect and something of an understanding, but there’s often that really big fear factor. The thing about I’m A Celeb is that it really pushes you. When you’re introduced to – if you’ve got a fear of snakes, you’re not seeing that snake when you’re sitting in your lounge room and someone brings it to you. It’s like you are hungry, you’re bored, you’ve just been stuck in the jungle for two weeks. You’re really on edge and then you see, there’s a snake right there. So people really get taken aback, they have no filter. It’s an interesting thing and what’s really cool to see is that celebs in there, there’s often that initial fear, particularly when it comes to the animals that they’re around, but more often than not, with a little bit of guidance, they overcome that fear very quickly. And it’s a really powering thing to watch, so I think that any of the celebrities that I know, I think any of them going in there would definitely have a lot of epiphanies and they’d probably surprise themselves. Even the Kevin Harts of the world that might not like tarantulas very much, they might just end up warming to it all after an experience in the jungle, so watch this space.
You mentioned a lot of celebs go in there and try to conquer their fears, so what’s something that you’re afraid of?
Oh wow, so many things. It’s funny because I feel like in the jungle, there’s nothing in there that I’m particularly afraid of. All of that stuff I look and think okay I would give that a go – easy to say that being the host and not actually being in there and doing it that’s for sure. But there’s a lot of things that scare me and some of the things that frighten me are the big things, the things that you can’t really see in your everyday life. As a wildlife conservationist, things like climate change, and habitat destruction on a much broader scale, definitely make me worried for the future of the planet. But I think it’s important, just like facing any of your fears, when it’s something really broad like that, it’s important to try and focus on that hope and positivity. I think if there’s as many of us as possible that are working hard to help protect what we have left, I think there’s definitely hope for our planet. Some of the big issues that face our world today certainly make me a little bit stressed but it’s important to get in and get the work done and just do the best you can. Also those little lime scooters in Brisbane. When I’m in Brisbane city and I’m driving around and there’s the little electric scooters, the quick ones that you stand on, they scare me SO much. That someone is going to zip out in front of my car. So there you go, there’s a few things that scare me. Climate change and electric scooters.
You heard it here first TGs! Well speaking of finding some positivity in the world, everyone loves a good spin off and TG had a fun idea that we’d love to pitch – I’m a Celebrity, Let Me Stay Here!. Where instead of uncomfortable and gross challenges in the wild, the stars would have to complete sweet and much nicer challenges in the wild. What would you suggest as some challenges for our spin off?
The first trial that you’d have to do for I’m a Celebrity, Let Me Stay Here is a koala cuddling competition, and then maybe you could do a kangaroo feeding competition. You could do all of the fun, cute and cuddly things, I think that’s what I would do. Really that’s just life at Australia Zoo. I think we would shoot it at Australia Zoo, I think you could do it there. We’ve got a resort now, we’ve got luxury accommodation so you could be like ‘oh, see how many laps of the infinity pool you could do after your koala cuddling’. That’s a show that I could get behind! That’s a show that I wouldn’t just host but I would definitely compete in that show.
I think we would get you on as maybe a celebrity advisor if it got picked up.
Okay, okay. Channel 10, if you’re watching, make this happen. Channel 10 is among us and they are nodding their heads and it’s going to happen. (laughs)

You’re part of our ‘Highlight Her’ issue, which spotlights amazing females. Who are some females that inspire you?
I think for me, my biggest inspiration in life would have to be my mum. She is such an incredibly powerful human being and she just rises to the occasion. She faces everything with such a sense of bravery and what makes her so brave is the fact that she’s authentic, vulnerable, intelligent and just exemplifies every quality that I would want to have. And I think it’s really important throughout life to have role models, to have people that inspire you and I definitely look at my mum and I see the way she runs our business, I see the way she is the most incredible grandma to my little niece, Bindi’s daughter. You know I just look at her and go wow and in every facet of life, she just nails it. She just does such an amazing job and I hope I’m like her when I grow up, you know that’s the plan. But for me, I think throughout my life the people who really made me who I was and who are my greatest guiding forces have been women. And the two that I can think of instantly are my mum and also my sister, and I think it’s really cool that you’re doing this spotlight and I’m very very honoured to be part of it and to talk about amazing women that inspire me, my mum and my sister.
