Hi Blusher! What did you want to be growing up? Did you always want to be musicians? M: I wanted to be a vet, but was also playing classical violin when I was a child and grew up doing music. I feel like I has so many random careers that I also wanted to do, but in my heart it was always music.
J: Yeah, it was always music for me as well. I grew up with a musical family and my parents were in an ABBA tribute band, so it was always around me. I would always force my dad to play piano when I was really young and make up gibberish songs with him for hours. I was so annoying!
L: I always wanted to be a musician and a producer in particular since I found out what that was and that that was something a girl could be. I was like 'oh that’s where I go, that’s the path I’m gonna walk down!'
What was the first concert you guys ever went to?
M: Mine was Gwen Stefani, The Sweet Escape Tour, and it was my first official concert. It was the greatest experience of my life. I fell in love with the theatrics of the biggest pop show that I had seen. I was like 'oh my god, how do I do that?!' and just tried to put on a little Gwen Stefani show in my bedroom.
L: I think mine was The Jungle Giants and it was really cool to see an Australian band at that level. I remember exactly was I was wearing – I was wearing a yellow dress; I was so excited to be going to a gig! But my first big show was Coldplay and that was a real moment. Especially after listening to music just in headphones and mp3s, and then finally hearing it in a stadium. It was such a crazy feeling.
J: I remember the first big stadium pop show I went to was P!nk and that was really sick. I think it was prior to her flying around a lot. It was such a good show, but I also remember distinctly the opening act, I was like 'this is so cool' and the band on before was the Australian band, Faker. Faker was the support band and I thought they were very cool. The stadium was filling up and people were walking in and I was like 'What are you guys doing? Look at this! Come on!'
Who or what inspires you all?
M: These guys!
L: I feel like when it comes to songwriting we are all inspired by our memories together and our stories as friends. But in terms of artists, we take inspiration from so many different places. From those real pop divas like Kesha and Charli XCX, and also MGMT, LCD Soundsystem, Troye Sivan, ABBA. Between us there are so many different points of reference, so many things we are excited about. Then we are really inspired by fashion and what we find on Pinterest. There's inspiration coming from all different directions!
If you could have any super power, what would it be?
J: Flying! I want it so badly, I want to be able to fly. I just want to soar above. I always have dreams where I’m flying and it’s just amazing, it’s great.
M: I would like to teleport wherever I would like to go in the world at any time.
L: Ahhh, now there’s so many different options! The first thing that came to mind was actually, sometimes when we are doing songwriting, I’ll have a whole vision for a song in my head. It will be so cool if I could just click my fingers and it could just exist. Like that would be really cool. But that’s so practical and on brand.
J: What would the name for that power be?
L: Ableton... Maybe just like instant whatever food I’m dreaming of instantly appears. Or instant dog, just any dog. Boom! It just appears.

You guys have travelled the world and supported pretty cool names, what has been the most memorable moment in your career so far?
J: I think the first ever tour we did was for an artist named Aurora from Norway. That is probably still the most special memory for me. We did an Australian and New Zealand tour with her, and it was our first time performing to crowds that big as well and in those beautiful venues. So it was a very special one.
M: There have been so many really awesome career goals that we have been able to check off and so much travel and touring. The thing that will really stick in my memory is just the tiny little moments on tour where it's not like a big euphoric thing, it’s not a show. It’s just those little things where you're just having a heartfelt conversation with each other, or in the back of the tour bus and you're like ‘are you okay?’ you know, and little looks across the room that we have developed after so much time living together and working together and touring together. It’s just those little moments.
L: That’s so sweet. Just then I was transported back to a time where we were backstage in Glasgow, and it was so freezing in the green room, like you could see your breath. And for some reason, I just remembered we were eating chips and they fell on the floor, and we were just eating chips off the floor.
What is your favourite gig you have ever played?
M: It’s so crazy whenever we support one of our real idols, like for me, Tove Lo was one of those people where I was like 'I can’t believe I’m gonna see your show. Let alone meet you play alongside you', and she was so, so lovely. She had us backstage in her green room after the show and she was very, very welcoming. I think especially in the music industry, it’s so nice to have those people who pave the way. She has definitely been one of those people for me for a long time, so it’s really special.
J: We got to play on a mountain in Japan on the snow, which was pretty up there. That was for a festival called Snow Machine. Everyone was decked out in their snow gear, like little snow bunnies, which was so fun.
M: Which Jade totally manifested in a psychic way! A year before that show, you were asked the question of 'where would you like to play?' and you just had this vision of like 'maybe one day I would like to play in the snow on top of a mountain and be doing a DJ set on a ski mountain', and then it happened!
The RACER EP totally gives us summer vibes! What is on your summer playlist - and yes, we're totally expecting a Blusher song in there!
M: 'Accelerator' by Blusher is a good one!
L: The Addison Rae album is on repeat at the moment. There is a song called ‘Summer Forever’
J: I really love beabadoobee I think she gives summer relaxed vibes, which is nice. Nothing too hectic, but like chilling on the beach.
M: Sabrina Carpenter is on my summer playlist.
