Above all, be consistent! If they do something naughty, usually a clap and a, "no!" will be enough to teach them, but you must do this every time. For example, if you let them jump on the couch sometimes but not others, they'll be sooo confused!
Before you bring your new pet home, make sure you puppy-proof your house. Move any wires and electrical items out of a dog's reach, plus anything you don't want chewed!
Learning to 'sit' is a super important skill too. It's handy to have some healthy dog treats on hand. Use a hand gesture plus the word, 'sit' (you may have to gently press them into sitting the first few times). When they sit on command, wait a few seconds and give them a treat as a reward!
Your puppy will need a leash and collar, food and water bowls, a warm bed and some toys to keep them stimulated.
If your new pet dog is not house trained, this is probably the first and most important training! Take them outside and wait until they've done their business. Praise them once they've 'gone' outside!
It is important to bring your puppy into a quiet and calm home. Let them explore their new home (but keep an eye on them!) and resist the urge to introduce them to all your besties! For one, they may not be vaccinated against puppy illnesses, and two, they will be overwhelmed by loads of new faces.
Your friends will have plenty of time to meet your new furry BFF soon!
