Sit! When training your furry friend it’s always best to start out simple.

Teach your dog to sit by holding a treat just in front of her nose and guiding it to the top of her head, while saying “Sit”. When she sits down to reach it, give lots of encouragement, and repeat these steps until she starts to sit without needing the treat!

Stay! Dogs can get pretty excited so getting them to stay can be one of the trickiest moves to teach, but also one of the most useful things for them to know.

Once your dog has mastered the sit, add the instruction “stay” with your palm facing her. After a few seconds, reward her with a treat and lots of praise. Keep repeating, then eventually take a step back and say “stay”. After three seconds, reward her with a treat! Keep repeating until she’s got it.

High five! Teach your dog to be the friendliest pup around and be fast friends with your BFFs!

All you have to do is get your dog to sit – see, we told you it’d be a handy trick to know. Grab a treat and tap your dog’s foot saying “High five”. When she reaches to paw at it, make contact with your hand and give the treat! Keep repeating every time your hand and her paw make contact and give heaps of encouragement!

Clean up the toys!

Throw a toy and get your dog to fetch. Then hold a treat over her toy basket. When she drops it in to get the treat, give her lots of praise! Keep repeating until she learns this is where to come back to – and you’ll have the toys put away in no time with your fury friend’s help!
