  • My Fave Reality TV!

    by Alex | Aug 21, 2013
    Happy Wednesday TGs,

If you're as obsessed with reality TV as I am, you'll have an opinion on what TV show is the best.

It says a lot about you, what TV show you watch, kind of like if you're a Home and Away addict or a die-hard Neighbours girl. I'm a Neighbours girl – my dream is to one day be a guest star on the show. I can see it now, casually walking into Harold's and instantly being besties with Kate and Chris!

But anyways, back to reality TV, this year it's a pretty big year. The X Factor has RedFoo as one of the judges. OMTG He is hilarious! I would definitely try and be on his team if I could. It looks like the show has discovered plenty of talent!

Ronan chats to prodigy Jai. Photo: Facebook

Starting off with my fave from Ronan's team: Jai Waetford. This 14-year-old singing sensation is ah-mazing! He's got such an amazing voice that even if he doesn't win this comp, he will for sure land himself a record deal.

Australia's Got Talent: The Judges! Photo: Facebook

As for AGT, my fave part are the wildcard acts, like Bendy Kids with Buns, they're dancers, they're kids and they're bendy! I also love all acts that involve animals doing cute tricks and wearing costumes. I love that Timomatic is now a judge because this is the show that discovered him! He's come full circle and is one cool dude!

Confession time: I'm addicted to Masterchef, I love watching the contestants sweat it out running back and forth from the pantry to their stoves, the panic in their eyes when they are plating up and the emotional stories behind the dish they have made. My fave contestants have been booted. I was really hoping that Pip or Dan would win, but now that they're out I'm hoping that Lucy, the cupcake queen will win because girls rock!

Are you watching any of these shows? Who's your favourite contestant? I'd love to know.

    Happy watching!

  • What Celebs are REALLY Like

    by Alex | Aug 15, 2013
    Hey TGs,

Do you ever sit there watching Shake It Up and think, I wonder what Bella and Zendaya are really like? I do that all the time. My all time fave one is to day dream about what Louis from 1D is really like, I think he'd be really funny.

So I thought I'd dish the dirt on what the celebs I've met are really like!

Niall Horan is truly lovely. Photo: Getty Images

Niall from One Direction: Okay so we never met but we spoke on the phone. This was literally the week that One Direction infection went… well viral. He was totally sweet and really grateful for the fact he and his besties were making it big. And his accent? Ah-mazing!

Peyton List: Peyton is one of the sweetest celebs ever. I interviewed her in her dressing room on the set of Jessie and guess what I spotted? A drawer full of fan mail she has replied to. I asked her about it and she replies to almost every single bit of fan mail she gets. How sweet is that?!

Ross Lynch and R5: This family is 100 per cent obsessed with music. They are loud, boisterous and so funny! Ross is probably the most outspoken, Riker is totally sweet and the most grounded, Rydell is so sweet (my fave just don't tell the rest of R5), Ratliff is really quirky and has a wicked sense of humour and Rocky is really laid back and is a prankster.

Max George is super cheeky! Photo: Getty Images

Max and Siva from The Wanted: These boys are sooo cheeky! They walked in and tickled me before even saying hello!

Candice, Nathan and Teigan from Saturday Disney: These guys and their crew are totally my besties outside of the TG team, we often find ourselves at the same events and always get up to mischief together.

Debby Ryan and Victoria Justice: fun and nice! Photo: Getty Images

Victoria Justice: This little lady is totally and 100 per cent committed to her craft. She's very professional and has an amazing voice. She had a ball when she came into TGHQ.

Debby Ryan: After the photo shoot with TG when she was in Australia I took Debby shopping in Sydney's CBD and guess what?! She LOVES Aussie fashion!

Who is your ultimate celeb you'd like to meet? Mine is Katy Perry and Lady Gaga… and Taylor Swift… and Carly Rae Jepsen… it's too hard to pick just one!

  • OMTG I Went to P!nk!

    by Alex | Aug 08, 2013
    Hey my gorgeous TGs

Hope you are all having a fabulous week! Guess what I did last night?! I went to see the amazingly talented Pink at her Truth About Love concert. OMTG Let me tell you girls, she is ah-mazing!

    P!nk was ah-mazing. Photo: Instagram

It's the first time I've seen her in concert and I can't believe I waited so long to experience this kind of a show. Firstly the stage was set up with a really cute love heart screen and there were fireworks and an elevator on stage, it was seriously amazing!

Pink's stage was so cool! Photo: Instagram

I'd heard a lot about Pink's acrobatic performances but I didn't think they would be as impressive as what I saw! She literally hangs off a metal sphere as it spins, how she doesn't get super dizzy is beyond me! At one point it looked like she was going to slip from the silks flat on the ground but she manouvered herself perfectly into a graceful pose!

It was sooo cool! It totally makes me want to go and learn trapeze like the rest of the TG team did in the August issue of TG (out now! LOL).

The best thing about the concert is that she not only sung the new faves, she also played songs from her very first album, which came out when I was in Year 6! Whoa that was a long time ago! My best friend and I used to pump up Get The Party Started and dance our little hearts out!

I had sooo much fun at this concert, it totally goes into my top five concerts of all time.

Have any of you guys seen Pink in concert?

    Love and loud music,

The red carpet was turned yellow like sand and the premiere was decked out like a huge beach party! OMTG it was sooo cool!

I got to meet some pretty awesome celebs too. Teigan, Candice and Nathan from Saturday Disney were there and we got to hang out. They're really awesome!

Alex with Candice from Saturday Disney! Photo: Melissa Lazcano
Candice from Saturday Disney is sooo lovely.

Awesome Aussie rockers What About Tonight also walked down the yellow carpet and are super psyched about their new single, Time of Our Lives. You guys should totes listen to it when you can.

I also got to chat to Ross Lynch the star of Teen Beach Movie and his amazeballs band R5 about how much they're loving Australia and let me tell you they can't get enough of all you Aussie fans. Rydell Lynch said that the highlight of their trip has been "meeting all our fans".

Lab Rats' star and Disney FanFest guest star Spencer Boldman also spoke to TG while on the yellow carpet and says: "thanks for all the support Total Girl readers, I love my Aussie fans!"

I also got to meet the star of Teen Beach Movie, Maia Mitchell, who is Australia's first Disney starlet! We're all so proud of her!

The movie was amazing and totes funny. She did a wonderful job acting alongside Ross Lynch as Mac. You guys totes have to watch the movie!

Alex and Maia Mitchell at the Sydney Premiere! Photo: Melissa Lazcano
Fellow Aussie Maia Mitchell. Gooo Maia!

Last to arrive to the premiere was Good Luck Charlie's Bridgit Mendler. She told TG that she, "loves Australia and got to go to Melbourne for a fan meet and greet" she also got to, "meet a kangaroo and get shown around Sydney by Maia Mitchell."

After the screening of Teen Beach Movie we all got to go to Disney FanFest which was like a VIP music festival where What About Tonight, R5 and Bridgit Mendler serenaded the crowd. It was an amazing event and I had such a good time!

Catch Teen Beach Movie on August 9 at 7pm on Disney Channel.

  • My New FAVE Song!

    by Alex | Jul 29, 2013

    Happy Monday TGs,

Want to know why I'm so happy?! Well the August issue of TG with the absolutely amazing Victoria Justice eating some delish fairy floss is on sale today; and secondly because I've been listening to Zendaya's new song Replay all day long.

    Zendaya - Replay. Photo: Facebook

I've been a HUGE Bella and Zendaya fan for ages, I met them when Shake It Up first came on the Disney Channel a few years ago. I was lucky enough to visit the set of Shake It Up and meet the whole cast – totes amazing!

Both  Bella and Zendaya were so lovely and down to earth, they totally won me over. I also have to admit that I knew Zendaya and I would get on very well because she was wearing a Minnie Mouse sweater dress with some high top sneakers. I mean we practically looked like twins on the day! I was also wearing a sweater dress and my fave high tops. You know what they say? Great minds think alike!

Back then she was just starting to talk about making music, who knew that years later she would be debuting a brand new song that I would be jamming to?!

Anyways, her song Replay is amazeballs, make sure you listen to it, it's available on iTunes for download. Her voice sounds ah-mazing! I can't wait to see the video clip for it, there is sure to be some awesome dancing involved.

What's been your fave song this month?

  • How to Meet a Celeb

    by Alex | Jul 24, 2013

    Hey TGs,

It's always been my dream to attend red carpet events and hang out with celebs. I never ever thought I'd actually be getting to do just that as Total Girl's entertainment writer! But way before I got my job at TG I was still a little celeb chaser. In fact I was quite proud of my celeb tracking skills. I was always the first of my friends to find out when a celeb was coming in to Sydney and even dragged my bestie time after time to the airport to see if I could meet them as soon as they got off their plane. Sure I wasn't successful every time, but it was always a fun adventure!

Zayn and Niall from One Direction

If you're anything like me you'll be totes excited to get some insider goss on how to become a celeb chaser too. Here are some simple tips:

    What to pack

    • Camera (Hello?! Obviously you need a pic of you and your new celeb bestie)
    • Sensible shoes (Running past other fans may be required)
    • A poster of the celeb and a sharpie/ permanent texta  (For their autograph)
    • Water (It's thirsty work, so got to keep hydrated)
Meet Taylor Swift! Photo: Getty Images
    Taylor Swift!

    What to do

    • Get the goss. Find a date and location of where they're coming to. For example if Timomatic is going to do an in-store signing, find out what time he'll be arriving for your chance to meet him.
    • Red carpet events. The great thing about celebs is they love a photo op, which means that if there's going to be a red carpet event in your city, then they are sure to be there and so should you. Make sure you get in early to get a prime position on the red carpet.
    • After concerts. After concerts some super sneaky fans have a secret and I'm sharing this one with you. Find the back entrance or loading dock to the venue, casually hang out or ask security if the celeb is coming out to meet fans. Nine time out of 10 they pop out for a quick hello and sign a few items before jetting back to their hotel.
    • Hope this has helped, don't forget to ask for a parents help and permission before your start your celebrity mission! Let me know if you've ever met a celeb or if these tips have helped you at all.

  • OMTG I Met Johnny Ruffo!

    by Alex | Jul 15, 2013

    Hey TGs

So this morning I got to work and I got a phone call from Johnny Ruffo's publicist saying he wanted to tell me all about his new single that comes out tomorrow. Talk about a great way to start the day right?!

So off I sped in a taxi to a secret location to catch up with Johnny. It's was my first time meeting him although I've interviewed him over the phone. I have to say he is a very nice guy. He seems super hard-working too. I mean, he's producing awesome music AND acting on Home and Away

    TG's Alex met Johnny Ruffo!
OMTG star-struck! Johnny was super nice.

I sussed some of Johnny's faves:
    • Fave lolly: Snakes Alive
    • Fave ice-cream: Banana Paddlepop
    • Fave colour: If it’s two colours together it’s red and black and if its just one colour alone it’s blue
    • Favourite cuisine: I’m Italian so I love Italian
    • Most played song: Get Along by Guy Sebastian
    • Fave celeb: Michael Jackson and Beyonce

Plus find out what he had to say about his new single Unstoppable in our interview with Johnny Ruffo!

Are you guys fans of Johnny and would you like to see more of him in TG?

  • My Fave Books

    by Alex | Jun 27, 2013

    Hi TGs,

    Happy Thursday!

It's been so cold and miserable and normally I would be really upset about this except it's given me the opportunity to catch up on some reading. Seriously, there's nothing better than getting all warm and cosy on the lounge, under a warm blanket with a mug of hot chocolate in one hand and a great book in the other.

Not only is it really fun, being immersed in a whole different world while you read, but it's also helped me because as a writer for TG I need to be really creative and the best place to get inspired is from other writers. It's also really helpful to enjoy reading because as a writer I have to do a great deal of reading for my job too. So I've compiled a list of my fave books that I liked to read when I was TG-age.

    Charlotte's WebCharlotte's Web
This book is sooo amazing, I always dreamt of having my own little piggy and spider friends. I just thought Charlotte was so magical and smart unlike the common spiders you would normally come across.

The WitchesThe Witches by Roald Dahl
I LOVED this book! It's funny, has loads of twists and turns and overall has a great story line about witches, who don't actually dress in black pointy hats but dress normal and have a secret mission to destroy children. Sounds scary but it's actually quite tame as far as spooky stories go.

    Bridge to TerabithiaBridge to Terabithia
When I was little I was a bit of a dreamer and one of my many daydreams consisted of me and my bestie going on adventures to our own little secret hideaway, which is probably why I loved Bridge To Terabithia so much. Just as a spoiler, you may need tissues cause there is a sad part to this book.

What are your fave books TGs? Do you follow TG's book club in the mag?

  • Monsters University Premier: The Blue Carpet!

    by Alex | Jun 20, 2013

    Hey TGs,

There are a LOAD of amazing movies about to hit the big screen! It's sooo exciting!

One of the big flicks is Monsters University which had a celeb-filled blue carpet (blue instead of red because of the movie, get it! Hehe!) It looks like all the biggest stars were there to see the movie about a young Sulley and Mike going to Monsters University to learn the art of scaring. It looks totes hilarious because Mike is a little dorky while Mike is the big monster on campus.

Raini Rodriguez from Austin and Ally and her bro Rico Rodriguez from Modern Family got to meet Mike and Sulley, how cool is that?!

Caroline Sunshine from Shake It Up and Laura Marano from Austin and Ally got dolled up in blue for the premier; I just love Caroline's cute clutch!

  • Despicable Me 2: Red Carpet Premiere!

    by Alex | Jun 10, 2013
    Hi my lovely TG friends!

So... last night I went to the red carpet world premiere of Despicable Me 2. OMTG! Was totally stoked to even get the invitation. It was even more excited when I heard that Miranda Cosgrove was flying all the way from Los Angeles to be at the premiere!

So, yesterday pretty much consisted of preparation and trying to keep my nerves in check. Yep, I get star struck too! I mean, specially because it's Miranda and I LOVE iCarly!

Once I got to Bondi Junction Westfield I started to get really excited. The red carpet was set up and so was the Despicable Me 2 backdrop... so naturally I had to take a photo in front of it so I could look like a cool celeb too LOL!

Alex on the Despicable Me 2 Red Carpet

There was a HUGE blow-up minion in the centre and some delish minion cupcakes. I was ready and excited.

Alex poses with a giant Minion!

The minions showed up and were dancing on the red carpet and playing silly games with the fans. You could tell straight away when Miranda arrived as fans started screaming in delight and the paparazzi's light bulbs started flashing! Okay, honestly Miranda is beautiful in person and she is SOOO nice!

    Miranda meets a Minion!

There were some really cute kids that got dressed as Minions that got to walk the red carpet with Miranda and Steve Carell who plays Gru in the movie.

I had so much fun! Despicable Me 2 comes out June 20.

    Tell me what you think!
    xoxo
