  • Plastic Ain't So Fantastic: Part 3

    by Laura | Jul 13, 2018

    Hey guys!

So you’ve finally made it to part 3 – the last section of my ‘Plastic Ain’t So Fantastic’ post. Well done you! It’s been quite the journey, hey? Once again, if you haven’t read parts 1 & 2, I do suggest going back and reading them before you hit this up. That said, this one pretty much stands on its own, so if your current mood is lazy gal x 100, no judgement here! Most of my moods tend to fall into that category, TBH :P

OK so I promised to spill the T on my fave packaging-free prods that my besties over at LUSH hooked me up with, so I’m going to dive right in like a sassy sea turtle on a hot day. You ready? Let's go!

    Shampoo bars

                 SeanikJason

                  HoneyTin

What can I say, these cuties have literally transformed the way I think about hair care. To tell you the truth, I was a little wary at first. I wasn’t convinced that they would be able to give my hair the TLC it needs, but after trying them, I am a lifetime convert! So far I’ve tried ‘Seanik’ (blue), ‘Jason and the Argon Oil’ (pink) and ‘Honey I Washed My Hair’ (cream). They are all great for different things; for example, I find that Seanik is super clarifying and adds killer volume, Jason gets me Katy Perry-worthy shine, and Honey makes my locks suuuper soft and smells absolutely divine.

Don’t be fooled: these bars foam up like crazy, so you don’t need much product to get a good lather going. After you’ve used the bar, either leave it on a soap holder rack in the shower, or sit it on its side in one of the cute little reusable tins (you can buy these separately) so that it can dry out properly.

One of the best things about these bars is that they are really cost-effective: they are $14.95 each and last up to 60 washes (that’s about 25 cents per wash!). And if you’re like me and only wash your hair twice a week, each bar should last about 6-9 months.

    Solid conditioner

                                             Jungle

I’ve been using the ‘Jungle’ solid conditioner, and it’s pretty interesting! To be perfectly honest, it takes a little getting used to as it’s a very different experience from the thick, liquidy products we’ve grown accustomed to. It’s fairly thin, so it kinda doesn’t really feel like much is going on – and this troubled me the first time. BUT, I can confirm that my hair feels incredible after use. V lush indeed, LOL.

    Avocado co-wash

                        Avo

This product is a two-in-one shampoo and conditioner, aka, the lazy girl’s best friend! (It would be hilariously ironic if any TGs out there miss out on seeing this coz they were feeling too lazy to read this whole post, haha!) I‘ve only tried this product once, and as far as two-in-ones go, it was super impressive. My hair felt lovely and soft after use, and because it gently cleanses without stripping the hair of its natural oils, I think it could definitely be used more frequently than regular shampoos. I’m going to start using it for those ‘in between’ washes when it isn’t actually my usual hair-washing day, but I’m craving those freshly-washed hair feels.

    Hair treatment sticks

                           Treatments

This has gotta be one of the most inventive ways of delivering a packaging-free product I’ve ever seen! You know those delish hot choccy sticks you can buy? They’re basically just like that! You just pop the stick in a mug of boiling water and stir until it has completely melted. Just like magic, it transforms into a thick, luxurious treatment for your locks! FTW!

    Massage bars

                PearlWiccy

These massage bars are simply magical! I use my ‘Pearl’ bar (left) as a post-shower body butter and it makes my skin feel off-the-charts soft. And I rub the ‘Wiccy’ (right) into my sore muscles after a long dance sesh – it instantly relieves the tension and leaves my skin silky smooth.

    Scrubee

                                  Scrubee

My absolute fave product! And not just from LUSH, my fave EVER! This little guy is an in-shower body butter and gentle exfoliator (YAY for another lazy-girl prod!) and he permanently sits on my soap rack in my shower. About twice a week, I rub it all over just before I’m about to hop out of the shower and it makes my skin literally radiate with a glow reminiscent of Ariana Grande’s all day long! I swear! The smell lingers on your skin for hours, and it’s so heavenly that I have to actively stop myself from smelling my forearm all day. No word of a lie.

So there you have it, TGs! Just like that, you’ve made it to the end of my 3-part blog about packaging-free prods. Mammoth effort, guys! Thank you so much for staying with me – you all give me LIFE! But before I love and leave you, I want to know:

If you could create a plastic packaging-free beauty product that would change the world, what would it be?

Submit your answers in the comments below for the chance to win a LUSH Scrubee, worth $14.95! (Only TGs living in Aus are eligible. The winner will be notified via email on Friday July 20.) Good luck!

  • Plastic Ain't So Fantastic: Part 2

    by Laura | Jul 11, 2018

    Hey guys!

Welcome to part 2 of my ‘Plastic Ain’t So Fantastic’ post. If you haven’t read part 1, I suggest going back and having a squiz before powering through this one :)

So I’m pretty sure you all know by now that I am totally obsessed with LUSH, right? I love the brand for countless reasons – aaaall the reasons – but here are just a few:

    • The prods are fun, bright, inventive and saaah pretty!
    • The stuff actually WORKS! It does exactly what it promises to do, which is super rare when it comes to cosmetics.
    • The products smell like tiny drops of heaven, ahhhh – Can.Not.DEAL!
    • Everything is handmade, 100% vegetarian (over 80% of the products are vegan) and all
    • ingredients are ethically sourced (more on this later!).
    • The glitter is biodegradable! Yaaass! (Thank goodness we don’t have to live a sparkle-free life. I mean, what kind of life would that be?!)
    • They stand firmly against animal testing – PREACH!

No matter which way you look at it, LUSH is next-level awesome – it’s practically the Taylor Swift of cosmetics. Woah, huge call, right?! OMG, can you imagine if Tay brought out a cosmetics range? And she launched it by throwing a super secret glitter ball especially for TGs?? And she entered the ballroom riding a unicorn and sprinkling glitter everywhere???? And then she performed her entire Reputation album LIVE for us????? OMTG!
    *Happy sigh x 1000*

Wow, OK. I got a little carried away on a Tay Tay tangent for a minute there… Sorry about that. Where was I? Oh, right: LUSH IS AWESOME. You’re probably thinking, ‘Well that’s cool and all, but how does that relate to your longwinded story about reducing plastic usage?’… but it all ties in, I swear! You see, feeling extra motivated and inspired about my new mission, I reached out to my friends over at LUSH to find out more about their plastic packaging-free products. Turns out they are LIGHTYEARS ahead of me and have been super passionate about this for, like, EVER. (Just when I thought I couldn’t love them any more…) The superstars at LUSH have been hard at work inventing new ways to get us the prods we love, minus the plastic. YAY! So anyway, they sent me on my way to my local store to get a full tour – and I was in no way prepared for the magic that was about to unfold…

                          1

I was greeted at the Bondi LUSH store by Paige; aka, my LUSH spirit guide; aka, my new BFF! Paige brings a whole new meaning to the term ‘eco-warrior’: she’s fiercely passionate about saving the environment, and she has spent the past few years learning everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) there is to know about LUSH. I spent two whole hours with Paige as she showed me all the ‘naked’ (packaging-free) products. I was in absolute awe because she could not only tell me exactly where every single ingredient in every single product has been sourced, but she also told the most beautiful stories about HOW they have been sourced – and with such detail and passion that I felt like I was there.

(Oh dear. I feel another teenie tangent coming on… Brace yourselves, TGs…)

When the peeps at LUSH say all their ingredients are ‘ethically sourced’, they reeeeaaally mean it. Every single thing they use to create all their squee-worthy prods has 100% traceability, so they always know exactly where everything has come from and under what conditions. In a nutshell, everything has been obtained responsibly and sustainably, and all the workers involved in producing all the ingredients are safe and being treated fairly. So what does that mean for you? Well, it means that you can totally bliss out with all your fave LUSH products with a conscience as clear as the Indian Ocean; it means you can bask in the glow of your ethical choices, all the while getting the softest skin and silkiest locks of your life. Sign. Us. UP.

OK, where was I? Ah yes, my tour of LUSH Bondi. So after two hours of learning, smelling, testing and laughing, Paige sent me on my merry way with a bunch of her fave naked products to try at home. I was happier than a seagull with a hot chip, let me tell you!!! Here’s a snap of my heavenly haul:

                             3

OK guys, I best leave it there for part 2. Don’t worry, I’ll be telling you all about these amazing prods in my next post on Friday (and YES, I have tried all of them, hehe). But one last thing: I’d love to know if you’ve tried any awesome LUSH products lately, and if so, what’s your favourite and why? My current fave is the Scrubee, coz it makes my skin feel suuuuper soft and the smell is incred.

                             2

Thanks for reading, TGs! Catch you on the flip side :)

  • Plastic ain't so fantastic

    by Laura | Jul 06, 2018

    Hey guys!

OMTG, I am sooo excited to share this story with you! Hehehe! That said, it’s a pretty lengthy story... and I know all you TGs are busy little bees, so I've decided to split it up into three parts which I'll post as separate blogs over the next week. That way, it should be as digestible as that delish piece of vegemite toast you ate for brekkie this morning – YUM!

So heads up: this first part of the story isn’t exactly about cosmetics, soz. It’s actually about something a little serious, but super important. It’s somewhat of a teenie tangent – a backstory, if you will. I know you’re probs thinking, ‘Um, what kind of beauty blog is this?!’ – but trust me, it’s all leading somewhere pretty spesh, so stay with me! Plus I’ll throw in a cute snap of my doggo Wesley at the end of part 1 to sweeten the deal. Sound good? OK cool!

    Part 1: My plastic-free mission

I’ve always been a fairly eco-conscious kind of gal; my mum raised me to care about the environment and do my bit when it came to saving the planet. But I didn’t realise how many bad habits I had picked up over the years without even thinking, espesh when it came to plastic usage. I know it’s not nice to think about, but plastic – especially the single-use kind – really is destroying the world we live in. Did you know that there is more microplastic in the ocean than there are stars in the Milky Way? Or that 100,000 marine creatures die every year from plastic entanglement (and that’s just the ones that are found)? Pretty scary stuff, huh? And unforch, that’s just the beginning :(

It’s so easy to let yourself believe that your individual actions don’t have an impact, but when it comes to the environment, EVERYTHING has an impact. As Vincent Van Gogh once said, “Great things are done by a series of small things brought together” – every little bit counts, TGs. And it’s never too late to start changing your habits.

So long story short: I’m trying my best to become an eco-warrior by drastically reducing my plastic usage. I still have a looong way to go, but at least I’m on my way to that sweet, plastic-free life. I have managed to significantly reduce the plastic in my bathroom/grooming routine (which is pretty cray for a cosmetics-loving girl like me!), and I’m going to show you how you can do the same. There are plastic-free solutions to practically everything, you just have to go out there and find them. I’m on a mega mission, and I would love all you planet-loving TGs out there to join me! There is strength in numbers, guys, and I truly believe that we can and WILL change the world. Who’s with me??? Yaaass, queens! Let’s DO this.

Stay tuned for part 2! It will be up next Wednesday. Spoiler: it's SAH MUCH FUN!

    Xo Laura

Oops, I almost forgot! Here’s a snap of my boy Wez wearing his new bandana from Doggone Gorgeous. (So squee, right?!)  Enjoy :)

  • Batiste's new dry shampoo

    by Laura | Jun 25, 2018

    Hey TGs,

Sorry I’ve been off the glam grid for the past couple of months. Inspired by our TG Goes Global issue (on sale now), I jumped on a plane to Mexico! For reals! I spent almost three whole weeks relaxing on the beach and sipping on fresh pineapple juice. I also went swimming in all the underwater caves along the Yucatan Peninsula, and guess what?! I got to swim with turtles!!! Defs one of the coolest experiences of my life. Anywho, that’s enough about my travels (this is a beauty blog, after all!), so let’s get down to business…

I have come across sooo many cool products lately, and I’m more excited than a cute doggo with a squeaky ball to share them with you! So without further ado, I introduce to you this week’s Product Pick of the Week: the Batiste dry shampoo in ‘Pink Pineapple’!

                                        B

The lovely ladies at Batiste sure know how to make a gal feel spesh – when I walked into TGHQ the other week, this totally gorge fresh bouquet was waiting for me at my desk! Squee!

                             Batiste resize

Attached to the bouquet was a little parcel that contained their brand new, delightfully fruity dry shampoo. TBH, I wasn’t sure whether the product could possibly live up to the grandeur of this whole presentation, but I was WRONG! It smells like actual heaven – every time I have a whiff, it transports me back to that beach in Mexico, ahhh <3 But beyond the lovely scent, it’s actually quite miraculous how well it works to absorb excess oil. That said, I have come to expect nothing less from Batiste – their dry shampoo game has always been hella strong.

If you are yet to jump on the dry shampoo bandwagon, girl, get ON it! It will honestly change your life. You see, before I found dry shampoo, I was faced with an ongoing dilemma: do I sacrifice 30 more precious minutes of sleep to get up and wash my hair, or do I let my inner lazy girl win and embrace those greasy roots? I’d be lying if I said the latter never happened, but every time it did, I’d be longing for those oh-so-fresh and fabulous locks all day. Thanks to dry shampoo (espesh Batiste – they are legit the bee's knees), I never have to deal with that problem anymore! Whenever I can’t be bothered to wash my hair, I simply spray in some Batiste, give it a good rub/brush and away I go! Not only does it soak up the oil, but it also gives your hair some serious volume. And with the added benefit of a light fragrance, what’s not to love?

If you’re keen to try this tropical wonder prod, it’s available exclusively at Chemist Warehouse for $9.95 (worth.Every.CENT). It comes in a bunch of other fragrances, and they’re all pretty delish – not to mention the squee-worthy packaging. Let me know if you try it! I’d love to know what you think.

Before I let you get back to living your rad little lives, I want to know if there are any fellow lazy girls out there! Are you like me and love your beauty sleep, but also love looking cute? If so, I want to hear some of your time-saving beauty hacks! Hit me up in the comments below ;)

  • Kooki U Cosmetics

    by Laura | Apr 05, 2018

    Hey TGs!

Did you all have the most eggcellent Easter long weekend? I know I did! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t spend the majority of the time curled up on the couch in my PJs, eating waaay too much chocolate and cuddling my doggo, LOL. It was such a treat *happy-sigh* – anyway, I’m back at TGHQ now and feeling refreshed and ready to bring you guys all the latest in glam! Woo hoo!

On that note, I want to tell you about a brand new cosmetics range that I’m super excited about! It’s called Kooki U, and my gut tells me it’s a brand with a BIG future. (For reals. Watch this space.) The prods are so lovely and come in super cool, vibrant colours. Even more importantly, the brand is ethically responsible: all Kooki U products are 100% cruelty free and made in Australia with all natural/mineral ingredients.

All the prods are super spesh, but I’m vibing so hard on the glitter nail polishes! I was rocking the ‘Tutti Fruitti Glitter’ over the top of a baby pink base coat last week, and I swear, I’ve never had so many compliments on my nails. The glitter specks are really chunky and come in different sizes and colours, which gives such a dazzling effect. It almost looks like each of the specks has been meticulously painted on one by one, and believe me when I say I don’t have the time, patience or skills for that! TBH, I’m always impressed by a product that makes it seem like I’ve put in way more effort than I actually have. (Fellow lazy girls, rejoice!)

    1. Tutti Fruitti                                                                2. Glitter Disco

    Tutti-Fruitti3Glitter-Disco2
    3. Glitter Rose Petals                                                  4. Glitter Galaxy

    Glitter-Rose-Petals2Glitter-Galaxy2

Check out the full range of glitter polishes here: https://kookiu.com.au/collections/nails/products/nail-polish-glitter

I’m also pretty pumped about this body shimmer cream, coz I’m all about that shimmer life! (Well, aren’t we all?) I love anything with a super soft shimmer because it gives your skin a natural glow. Now excuse me while I cover myself in this from head to toe!

                              Body-Shimmer-Cream2

Before I love and leave you, I’d like to know if you’re a fan of this new range – which of the sparkly polishes suits your vibe? I think ‘Glitter Rose Petals’ sounds so luxe. Hit me up in the comments below :)

  • Everything's peachy!

    by Laura | Mar 27, 2018

    Hey TGs!

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m obsessed with all things PEACHY! I love the word, the fruit, the feeling, the smell, the emoji (hehe, sah cute, right?), and I especially love the phrase, 'Everything's just peachy'! I even own a shirt to prove it:

                            IMG_6978

So you can imagine how excited I was when the BYS ‘Peachy’ range arrived on my desk. Yep, the whole range is peach scented! Squee!!! It was like it was made for me :)

The first thing I tried was the lip oil. If you read my Glam Zone column in the mag each month, you’ve probs realised I’m a pretty big fan of lip balm…. But lip oil? I was intrigued, and a little unsure, TBH. But let me tell you, this cute prod is an absolute delight! It is suuuper moisturising (like a balm), high shine (like a gloss) and it smells ah-mazing! I can defs see it becoming one of my beauty staples. Well played, BYS. Well played.

    Peachy4

There are three shimmering nail polishes in the ‘Peachy’ range: ‘Caribbean Crush’, ‘Sweet Peach’ and ‘Wanderlust’. They are all so pretty, and surprisingly pigmented for shimmer polish. There is also a super cute lip exfoliator to buff away dry, flakey skin – I can't wait to try it! I reckon it will prep the lips perfectly for the lip oil.

    Peachy2     CO_LSOLEXPeachy 1Peachy3

    WARNING:
Don’t make the same mistake I did! The polish only becomes scented when dry! (Haha, oops. My poor little nostrils didn’t know what hit them when I took a huge whiff straight from the bottle, expecting it to smell like peach straight up!) Anyway, CAN confirm that it smells totally delish once dry – I gave my nails one quick coat of 'Sweet Peach' yesterday and they are still smelling lush. (It’s subtle, but lovely.)

                                     IMG_9320

So what do you guys think of these new prods from BYS? Everything’s just peachy if you ask me, LOL. But for those of you who don’t obsess over peachy things quite as much as I do: what would be your perf scent for a cosmetics range? I’d be pretty keen on salted caramel and peanut butter. Mmmm.

    Catch ya next week, TGs!

  • Unicorn ThermaColour

    by Laura | Mar 14, 2018

    Hey TGs!

OMG, you are not going to BELIEVE what arrived today!!! Spoiler: It’s probs the most magical package that has ever been delivered, like, EVER! It is seriously as if someone crawled inside my brain and brought my daydreams to life… Can. Not. Deal.

     Unicorn

OK so the package came in the form of a unicorn piñata – yes, a UNICORN PIÑATA! So it was off to a cracking start. (Full disclosure: you could put pretty much anything inside a unicorn piñata and I’m going to be well impressed.) It was obvs way too pretty to beat with the stick, so I carefully opened it from the bottom. Colourful confetti poured out like little drops of heaven, and inside was a small parcel wrapped in brown paper... The suspense was almost too much. And do you know what was inside??? It was a bunch of samples of the new Unicorn ThermaColour range from BRITE!

    Therma_edited-1
Now I know what you’re thinking – not worth all the hype, right? WRONG! This new washout hair chalk is unlike any chalk you’ve ever used because it has a magical power: it completely changes colour when exposed to heat, like a blow dryer or straightener! Even the sun or the warmth of your hands can change the hue. Ah-mazing, right? The colour combos are TDF; you can go from purple to blue, pink to invisible, purple to pink, blush grey to peach, just to name a few.

They popped in a couple of pre-chalked hair pieces too, as well as an adorbs mini hair straightener. These pieces are pink to invisible and purple to blue:

    Hair2

Needless to say, we spent the better part of the day playing around with these little wonders. It was such a dream. I’d love to know what you guys think! Let me know what your dream colour combo would be in the comments below. (Mine would have to be mauve to rose gold!)

  • Introducing the LUSH Easter collection!

    by Laura | Mar 05, 2018

OMTG, you guys! Look what arrived on my desk today!!! It’s the LUSH Easter range, and it’s so cute, I don’t even know what to do with myself… I’ve just been lovingly staring at this rainbow-coloured dream of a collection all day, and let me tell you, it smells as good as it looks.

    Easter LUSH

This range has everything you could ask for: bath bombs, bubbleroons, bubble bars (one in the shape of an adorbs bunch of carrots – squee!), sparkly melts, bubble spinners, soaps, shower creams, and my personal fave, a shampoo bar in the shape of a bunny face! And you know what’s even more awesome than their dream-like appearance and heavenly scent? The fact that every single ingredient used in these cuties – and every single finished LUSH product for that matter – is free from animal testing.

OK so I guess that confirms my plans for the Easter long weekend… If anyone needs me, I’ll be in the tub!

     Xo Laura

P.S. Are you a fan of this egg-cellent collection? Hit me up with a comment below and tell me which prod you’re vibing on the most.

  • My mermaid-hair mission

    by Laura | Feb 20, 2018

    Hey TGs!

OK so it seriously feels like I’ve been growing my hair foreeeeeeever. I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had a silly habit of growing my hair super long and then cutting it all off on a whim, only to immediately regret my decision and spend the following weeks sulking, vowing to never cut it again, desperately wishing it were long – but do you know what happens every time that day finally comes? Yep, you guessed it: CHOP! Goneskies. And so the cycle begins again…

BUT, not this time. Well, not yet… Not since I declared my mermaid-hair mission in December last year’s Glam Zone. I’m not gonna lie, if it weren’t for my fab hairdresser keeping her promise to not let me cut it off “NO MATTER HOW MUCH I BEG”, I might be sitting here typing this right now with a cute pixie cut and a grumpy face… Ah, she knows me all too well!

Anyway, one thing I’ve learnt is that resisting the urge to chop is a whole lot easier when your locks are super soft and healthy, so I try to use a moisturising hair treatment at least once a week to keep my strands in tiptop condition. On that note, I would like to introduce my Product Pick of the Week:

    BRITE hair masques, $16 each.

    Masques

These cuties landed on my desk today and I am so excited to try them! Espesh the unicorn one, coz, well… UNICORN!!! So squee. And the best part about all BRITE prods? They're 100% vegan and cruelty free, which is SO important for animal lovers like you and me.

Well that’s it for me today, TGs. But I’d love to hear about any products you’re loving right now – or celebs with cute short ’dos for inspo, maybe? Ha! Here comes that itch again… Thank goodness for my hairdresser.

  • DIY knot bracelets!

    by Laura | Feb 12, 2018

    Hey TGs!

OK so just putting it out there: I am utterly OBSESSED with making friendship bracelets. They are so much fun to make and are so preeeetty! *Heart eyes emoji*

So anyway, our Totally Squee issue hit the stands today! Yaaass! But you totes already knew that, right? Hehe. If you’ve already had a chance to pick up a copy and flip through the pages, our super cute friendship bracelet tutorial may have caught your keen eye. If you want to learn how to make the adorbs knot bracelets, which are featured on the page 53, grab your bestie and follow the instructions below.

    Happy crafting, TGs!

    Xo Laura

P.S. Knot bracelets are quite tricky to master, so be patient while you’re learning. Practice makes perfect!

    Laura-Blog-FriendshipBracelets

    What you need:

    * Cotton thread in various colours cut into equal lengths (50cm), 4-10 strands

    What to do:

    1. Knot strands together at the end and secure it to the edge of a hard surface (a table works great) using tape – ask the Mum and Dad first!
    2. Hold your first colour on the far left and take the colour beside it and form a ‘4’ with the strands, tuck colour one under colour two and form a knot, do this twice.
    3. Colour one has now moved one space to the right. Repeat step 2 with colour one and the next colour beside it.
    4. Keep going as colour one travels over to the right, until you have a complete row of that colour. Yay!
    5. Your next furthest colour at left is colour two. Repeat steps 2-4 to complete another row.
    6. Keep going! Repeat with all your colours to form a colour sequence you like.
    7. Finish with a plait, or tie off to secure.

  • Summer Beach Beauty Essentials!

    by Mel | Dec 09, 2015

    Hi TGs!

I'm all about the beach at the moment - Sydney has had the most amazing weather! I've been going every weekend and sometimes, even in the afternoon during the week! I don't just like to swim and hang about in the water though. My favourite thing is taking a ball down to the beach, like a soft one, and doing "count to 10". Basically you have to have a group, and one person hits the ball up with their hand, and someone else has to hit it up again when it comes down. But coz you're in the waves, it's REALLY HARD to get it sometimes and it's so funny!

Coz I'm loving the beach so much I thought I'd share my fave beach beauty essentials with you. I always have these in my bag!

    Hair brush

Wet Brush Detangling Hair Brush in Pastel Green, $14.95

I love these brushes because they make detangling my curly hair really easy. The bristles bend so there's almost no pulling happening!

    Everyday Clear Spray

Banana Boat EveryDay Clear Spray SPF 50+, $16.99

It's so so important to keep re-applying sunscreen so you don't get burnt. I like these mist ones because they're really easy to get on, so you can quickly get out of the water, dry off, mist it on, and they dry pretty quickly so you can get back in the water in no time!

    Scunci Hair Ties

Scunci Active 6pk Knotted Ponytailers, $6.95

When I get out of the water my hair looks SO GROSS, so I like having a cute colourful hairtie to sweep it up into a messy bun. Then it looks really cute!

What are your beach essentials? And have you been swimming a lot in this lovely hot weather?

  • TG's Nickelodeon Challenge: Say Yes To Everything!

    by Mel | Aug 21, 2015

    Hey TGs!

We're super excited here at TGHQ because there is a brand new TV show coming out on Nickelodeon called 100 Things to Do Before High School. It's totes amaze, we know you're going to LOVE it as much as we do!

It's about this girl called CJ who has a list of all the things she wants to do before high school. She and her BFFs, Fenwick and Christian go on all these fun adventures trying to tick all these crazy things off CJs list!

Sounds fun, right? We thought so too, so some of the TG team are going to take on a few of the challenges from the show, like having to say yes to everything for a WHOLE day, or facing your worst fear!

Get ready for some fun adventures TGs!

    100things_blogtile

    Hi guys!

So, to celebrate the brand new TV series from Nickelodeon, 100 Things to Do Before High School, team Total Girl are gonna take on some fun challenges that we get to tick off our own bucket lists! I was the first to go and I gotta say my challenge seemed pretty hard – for a WHOLE DAY, I had to say “Yes!” to everything I was asked. Aaagh!

I decided to do it on the weekend coz then I would have cool, fun stuff to tell you! And I decided not to tell anyone that I had to say yes, otherwise my sister would DEFINITELY start asking me to do silly things because she can be the WORST like that.

The first thing that happened was my friend called and asked if I wanted to go for a walk with her and her cute Italian Greyhound, Hugo. Um, YES! That wasn’t a hard one to say yes to, haha! We had the best time – we went for a huge, long walk through the park and let Hugo run around off his lead to play with other dogs.

When I got home, Mum asked me if I could water the garden. She was a bit surprised when I said yes with absolutely no whinging! It was actually really nice to help Mum out, she was really grateful and then she asked if I wanted to have lunch with her – yes again!

We bought some stuff from the grocery store and had a mini picnic outside. My sister came too, so it was a big family affair! It was really nice. Then I got another phone call – my friend Aimee wanted to go to the movies. I had actually already seen the movie she wanted to go to (Pitch Perfect 2), but because I had to say yes, I agreed to see it again! I thought it’d be really boring seeing the same movie, but I actually loved it – I laughed even harder at all the jokes!

At dinner my sister asked if I wanted to get Thai food and even though I really felt like pizza I said yes – but it was still delish.

All in all, a pretty great day! I should say yes more often!

FYI TGs, 100 Things to Do Before High School starts this Saturday, August 29th and will be on Nickelodeon every Saturday from 5pm!

  • TG’s Mel goes to Disney's Descendants Premiere – in LA!

    by Mel | Jul 31, 2015

OMTG. Do I have a cool story for you! Last week I got to do the most amazing thing ever – I got to visit Los Angeles in the USA for the premiere of Disney’s new movie, Descendants.

    Mel Descendants Premiere

    Me at the premiere!

The movie is all about the kids of your fave Disney heroes and villains. They’re all grown up as teens now, with the villain’s kids living on the Isle of the Lost, and the heroes kids in Auradon, which is all the Disney kingdoms united as one under King Beast and Queen Belle, from Beauty and the Beast. When their son, Prince Ben, is about to become King, he invites the kids of the villains to come to Auradon and attend school with all the heroes’ kids. Sounds pretty exciting, right? Totes wanna know what’ll happen next, right??

Well, I’m not gonna tell you coz I don’t want to ruin it. What I WILL tell you is that Descendants stars the super talented Dove Cameron from Disney’s Liv and Maddie, except she has PURPLE HAIR guys and is nothing like Liv OR Maddie! It’s pretty cool to see Dove playing a totally diff role. I’ll also tell you that there are loads of super catchy songs and amaze dances in the movie. Plus, I LOLed so many times, it’s super funny.

    Dove Cameron

    Dove Cameron!

But anyway, back to the premiere! We went to the Walt Disney Studios for it, which was SO COOL coz it’s a real actual movie production studio and I kept thinking I might run into a famous person! I didn’t – BUT there were famous people galore on the red carpet for Descendants!

Wait, did I say red? I meant PURPLE – yup, the carpet for the Descendants premiere was purple just like Dove’s hair in the movie! I got to talk to all the stars, and everyone was super nice – but best of all was Dove, because she was like “Total Girl! I know you guys! I love you guys!” – GUYS DOVE LOVES US ALL!!!!

I have video proof of this, but I can’t show you just yet. Keep checking back on the TG website though coz we will totes be putting a video up for you of the premiere!

    Mel and Sofia Carson

    Me and Sofia Carson (Evie!)

For now, tune in to the Descendants premiere – it’s on Saturday, 1st August at 7pm on Disney Channel. I reckon you guys will love it sooooo much! I know I did.

  • The Cutest Hair Accessories!

    by Mel | Jul 13, 2015

    Hey TGs!

My current obsession is hair accessories. Today I’m wearing a really cool new headband from the Lady Jayne LUXE collection that just landed in the shops, and I love it! It’s totally hiding the fact that I really need to wash my hair – haha!

    Melissa Lady Jayne headband LUXE

    See? Totally cute!

Celebs also love a hair accessory. I've rounded up my faves, and found some really great style matches so you can get started with your own hair accessory collection!

    Taylor Swift headband

    Taylor Swift

I love when Tay wears a headband – which she does a lot! If you have a fringe, wear your headbands at the point where the fringe starts like Tay is doing here. But if you don’t have a fringe, brush your hair back and use the headband to hold it in place. Super girly and super adorbs!

    Lady Jayne headband

    Lady Jayne LUXE Headband, $19.99

    Bella Thorne headband

    Bella Thorne

How pretty is Bella’s hippy hair? It’s so easy to do on yourself, too! Just put half of your hair up, pop the headband on so it goes across your forehead, and then let the top half out to hide the band. Easy!

    Floral headband

    Supre plaited Daisy Garland, $5

    Camila Cabello bows

    Camila Cabello

The lovely Fifth Harmony singer is all about a girly look, and I love this half-up bow style she wore recently! Clip-in bows are a really fun way to hide hairties – for this style, just do a half-up ponytail, and clip the bow across the hairtie.

    Bows colette

Colette by Colette Hayman 2 Barette Pack, $7.95

  • Lip Balm Frenzy!

    by Mel | May 14, 2015

    Hi TGs!

So, with the crazy weather changes lately, I've become pretty obsessed with lip balm. Is anyone else dealing with SUPER dry lips coz the air is so cold? *puts hand up in the air* I AM! Now, coz I have this awesome job where I get loads of beauty products delivered to my desk every day, I have quite a lot of lip balms I can try – probably over thirty, to be exact! I’ve had a bit of a play, and these are my current top five. In no particular order…

Maybelline New York Baby Lips Lip Balm

    1. Maybelline New York Baby Lips
    , $3.95

I loooove the smell of this one! They all have different scents, but the one I’m using is “Cherry Velvet” and it seriously smells like a cupcake. Yum! I also find this one super moisturizing.

    Banana Lanolips Lip Balm

    2. Lanolips Banana Balm
    , $15.99

Another one that smells amaaaazing (this time like delish banana lollies), this one REALLY helped my lips, they were way less dry by the end of the day after using it a few times.

    Honeymania Lip Balm

    3. The Body Shop Honeymania Lip Balm, $9.95

Yummmm! Honey! OMG can you tell I just love things that smell delicious? This one – you guessed it – smells like honey, but I also love that it’s in a little pot coz it’s really cute.

    People Plants

    4. People for Plants Peppermint and Evening Primrose Organic Lip Balm, $9.95

This one was cool coz it had a little tingly peppermint feeling, and was super fresh like you have just brushed your teeth.

    Kiehl's Lip Balm

    5. Kiehls Lip Balm #1 in Coconut

Coconuts! What lip scent will they think of next! This one reminded me of summer, and I love summer so that was definitely a good thing. It also soothed my sore, chapped lips really well.

So there you go! I do love these lip balms but I always like hearing about new things! So if you have a fave lip balm, let me know in the comments!

  • Signature Celeb Hair

    by Mel | Mar 17, 2015

    Hey TGs!

Do you have a favourite way to wear your hair? I do. I love to have a middle part, and I add a few curls with my hair straightener. I do like to mix it up – sometimes I wear it all natural, which is like, super curly – and if I’m going to a party I might wear a high ponytail or a fancy braid. But most of the time, it’s all about long waves!

Celebs are like this too. Sure, you might see them getting super stylin' for a big event, like the Grammys, but loads of celebs have a signature hairstyle. Here’s a few I've found for you to check out!

    Taylor Swift Side Sweep

    Taylor Swift – Side sweep

Tay has a long fringe, and she loves to wear it swept across her forehead with a low side part.

    Zendaya Bun Hairstyle

    Zendaya – High bun

Zendaya does some pretty cool things with her hair – everything from dreadlocks to super, super long curls have been seen on red carpets from her! But one style she goes back to all the time is a high bun.

    Katy Perry ponytail hairstyle

    Katy Perry – Rainbow colours

It feels like every time we see her, Katy has a new hair colour! At the moment it’s pastel purple, but the pop princess has also rocked pink, blue, and green hair – just to name a few!

    Ariana Grande High Ponytail

    Ariana Grande - high ponytail

Miss Grande has amazing long locks, and her high pony style is the perfect way to show them off – don’t you think she looks like a beautiful mermaid with those cascading curls?

What is your go-to hair style? Are you a ponytail girl like Ari, or maybe rock a bun like Zendaya? Let me know in the comments!
